Vijaya Tamla Rai is an assistant professor of Sociology at Montana State University, Bozeman. Dr. Tamla Rai earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His research agenda aims to improve wellness in underserved communities by amplifying the voices of vulnerable people through empirical research. His primary research advances the sociology of homelessness by examining evictions, eviction filings, and racial gaps in homelessness in U.S. communities. In addition, he collaborates with interdisciplinary researchers to study health disparities, childhood adversities, and urban marginality. At Montana State University, he currently teaches courses such as Urban Sociology, Sociological Research Methods, Social Stratification, and Sociology of Homelessness. As a DAIR3 trainee, Dr. Tamla Rai has begun developing AI-integrated pedagogy to enhance learners’ experiences of using generative AI as a learning assistant while strengthening their ability to evaluate evidence, identify bias, and reflect on ethical AI use in their academic endeavors.
