Neuroscience education, productive uses of AI

I am a neuroscientist and an assistant professor of instruction. I teach courses on neuropsychopharmacology, brain diseases, and a more general survey course. My interests are in improving the educational process and student engagement with information. The science shows that increased engagement leads to increased retention. I am also very interested in how generative AI can be used productively in the learning process. I do not think that these are new problems. The problems with AI remind me a great deal of the beginnings of the internet, and the importance of learning information literacy. I hope that this moment can provide us with a powerful tool, and learning that tool’s strengths and limitations can make our students better consumers of information, and better scientists.
