I am a neuroscientist and Senior Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA. I earned my PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy, and completed two years of postdoctoral training in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the University Medical Center Groningen, the Netherlands. My research focuses on elucidating the neurobiological mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration across the Parkinson’s disease spectrum, including prodromal stages such as isolated REM sleep behavior disorder. During my training in Groningen, I characterized disease progression and identified predictors of adverse clinical outcomes in prodromal phases of Parkinson disease. In my current role at the University of Michigan, I use highly selective molecular radiotracers alongside structural imaging approaches to investigate the involvement of both central and peripheral nervous systems in Parkinson disease clinical trajectories. A central theme of my work is the integration of comorbidities into models of neurodegeneration, with the goal of improving early disease detection, biological stratification, and patient classification. I am increasingly focused on translational and interventional research, aiming to bridge mechanistic insights with clinical applications. In 2024, I was selected for the Institute on Methods and Protocols for Advancement of Clinical Trials in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (IMPACT-AD) program and certified as a clinical trialist.
