Dr. Zhou earned his MPH and PhD degree in Epidemiology from Michigan State University and MD degree in Pathogenic Biology from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences. His current research interests are 1) to integrate comprehensive knowledge and skills from epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and clinical medicine into the discovery and application of new omics-based biomarkers together with various clinical data for precision diagnosis/prediction/ therapy as well as etiological/pathophysiological studies of various chronic diseases in humans; and 2) to analyze structured and unstructured clinical big data including electronic health records (EHR), medical images, and multi-omics data with various artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly machine learning (ML) algorithms, to provide solutions for the improvement of risk assessment and patient care as well as the support of healthcare policies. Before moving to Michigan, he was a postdoc/assistant research scientist at University of Arizona working on NIH-funded R01 projects regarding the regulation of nutrient metabolism in the reproductive process of female mosquitoes. Currently, Dr. Zhou is serving as an Academic Specialist for Research at the Center for Statistical Training & Consulting (CSTAT) in MSU.
