I am a Professor in the Department of Biology, College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, Jackson State University. I teach Human Anatomy and Physiology and Human Nutrition to undergraduate and graduate students. I am also a faculty sponsor to undergraduate student members of Tiger’s Garden Club at Jackson State University.
Through teaching and research my impact on students is:
- Mentoring Students: Over the years I have mentored graduate and undergraduate students either through research as their thesis advisor or as an undergraduate mentor to undergraduate students seeking to gain hands-on research experience. Many of my students have pursued professional schools and I am always open and excited to mentor students.
- Community Service: Through my research I have given seminars to communities around Jackson Metro Area to bring awareness about chronic lung disease and the quality of life with a chronic lung disease.
- Scientific Service: As a scientist I share my research findings not only through publications but also through attending scientific conferences where I present my current research and also learn about others scientist research and seek collaborations.
- Educational Service: I teach lower and upper division courses and my teaching approach embraces two ways: teach and engage. I teach the subject matter but also I challenge my students with critical thinking questions.
Scientific Gorals and Achievements: I am a lung biologist and I study acute and chronic lung disease. My actual funded research focuses to understand the regulation of microRNAs and their role in lung chronic disease.
Expertise: Cell molecular biology, gene expression, RNA interference, fluorescent microscopy and lung physiology of small laboratory animals.
Seeking: Collaborations in developing AI-based models to study acute and chronic lung disease
