Data Science Integration in Chemistry Curricula

Dr. Naomi F. Campbell is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Jackson State University. She is an analytical biochemist by training and has transitioned to chemical education research in the last five years. She has assisted in the redesign and teaching of undergraduate chemistry courses to implement evidence- and inquiry-based approaches, and in instructing and mentoring graduate students and colleagues in implementing effective approaches to teaching and learning in STEM. She is a certified POGIL facilitator and has facilitated POGIL workshops at Jackson State University and Tougaloo College. She has also received training in writing POGIL activities. Previous projects in chemical education have included developing and implementing guided inquiry and open-inquiry labs into the biochemistry laboratory, using digital tools for student engagement in general chemistry, and improving student learning through recitation and chemistry readiness workshops. On-going educational research projects include introducing VR/AR and data science into the chemistry curricula and using/developing adaptive learning and assessment tools.
