Cancer Research

Dr. Ramon Ocadiz Ruiz is a Research Scientist in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan. His work is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer progression and the dynamics of metastatic environment using biomaterial-based models that replicate tumor niches. By integrating transcriptomic (scRNA-seq) and genomic (WES) profiling with intercellular signaling analyses, he examines the communication and evolution of cancer cells within their microenvironment, aiming to generate insights that are critical for the development of targeted cancer therapies. Dr. Ocadiz is exploring the application of implantable bioengineered devices to enhance the early detection and prognosis of lung cancer (NSCLC) metastasis. His research extends to developing automated systems for detecting minimal residual disease (MRD) and conducting targeted drug screenings using ex vivo organoid models, which supports the advancement of personalized treatment strategies.
